Atsufumi Ujiie

Percussionist and recorder player, Atsufumi Ujiie, is a sought-after musician specialising in the performance of pipe and tabor. He commenced his musical studies with a Bachelor of Music in percussion at the Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo, before being awarded a scholarship to study pipe and tabor at the Chalemie summer school in Oxford. In 2013, he completed a triennial degree at the Milano Civica Scuola di Musica in Italy and completed a course in the perfection of 20th century chamber music at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala, also in Milan. He plays regularly in festivals in Italy and England such as Festival Milano Musica, Festival lo Spirito della Musica di Venezia, International Pipe and Tabor Festival, and concerts with Teatro alla Scala. He has played with The Ring Around Quartet and Consort (Tutte Frottole!), recorded for RAI Italian radio and BBC radio, and played as soloist with many orchestras and ensembles. Atsufumi has an interest in exploring and creating new possibilities for the relatively unknown pipe and tabor, and has a desire to use his experience and skills for musical education. He had taught recorder at the Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo and he teaches percussion at the Scuola Costanzo Porta in Cremona. Currently he is chairman of the Pipe and Tabor Society of Japan.
